Your new favorite summer cocktail.

The temperatures exceeded 80 degrees for the first time this year which meant two things: Dave broke out the cut off shorts and we finally got to sit outside our local bar and drink cocktails. Sonja, one of our favorite bartenders (yes, we are on a first name basis) had a special cocktail that she made for us: basil lemonade with vodka and limes. We quickly fell in love - and drank five. Or seven. Let's just say the night ended with a street hot dog at 1:30 a.m. It was one of those nights. The hot dog, by the way, was awesome.

Today the temperatures reached 85+ degrees and after a day of walking around Portland taking photos, Dave and I were hot, sticky and in need of a cold beverage. We knew what we had to do. Below is our version of Sonja's basil lemonade cocktail.

Ingredients
  • lemonade
  • fresh basil leaves (3-4 per cocktail)
  • simple syrup
  • lime wedge
  • lemon wedge
  • 1 1/2 ounces vodka
  • ice
Muddle the basil, limes, lemons and simple syrup.  Add ice, lemonade and vodka. Shake, shake, shake. Pour. Drink. Enjoy. Add a fun paper straw if you feel so inclined. We like things fancy.

  3. That looks delicious - kinda like a boozy Arnold Palmer (my favorite summer drink) but more refreshing.
